The main strategy for the launch of the Galaxy S7 was to show how far the brand and its technology had developed over time. What if you could transport a large audience back in time by releasing a limited edition handset that filled people with nostalgia, joy and slight relief that it was only a highly elaborate April fool hoax?
All of Samsung’s social and web channels were utilised to pull off the hoax, including a product page which mimicked the style and layout of the latest handsets. Most people did get the gag, however it did cause a bit of debate around whether it should go into full production!! The press also seemed to like it with CNN including it in their favourite fool's for the year.
